How to Turn on the Speaker on an iPhone

In addition to enhanced multimedia features, the iPhone also has basic functions that are available on many cellphones, such as a speakerphone. The speaker feature allows you to speak to a caller and hear him without putting the device up to your ear. It is also beneficial if you want a group of people to participate in a conversation on your iPhone. You need to be in an active call to use the speaker.

Step 1

Tap the "Phone" icon at the bottom of the Home screen.

Tap the "Contacts" icon at the bottom of the screen, and then navigate to the person you want to call.

Step 3

Tap the contact's name, and then tap the number to initiate the phone call. Alternatively, you can enter a number directly using the keypad and then press the "Call" button.

Tap the speaker icon in the top-right corner of the calling options box when it appears. The calling options box also contains other features such as a mute button, a hold button and access to contacts. The speaker icon looks like a speaker with sound waves emanating from it and turns blue when pressed.

Step 5

Press the volume buttons on the left-side of the phone to increase or decrease the speaker volume.

Step 6

Tap the speaker icon again to turn off the speaker, or tap "End" to end the call.
