How to Upload Music Files onto the Internet
Uploading your music files to the Internet is a great way to gain a following of fans for your music. Legally, you can only do this if the music is made by you and not by someone else. In other words, if you have lawfully downloaded music to your computer that was made by another artist, it would still be illegal to upload and play the music on a website. There are some websites where you can upload your own music files for free to help get your name out there.

1
Sign up for an account at a website that will allow you to upload your music files for free, unless you would rather pay a fee and get more bandwidth (space on the web server). MP3.com, Myspace Music and Last.fm are a few examples of these hosting websites (see Resources). Read the information before signing up so you know for sure that there are no hidden fees or subscription costs.

Find the button or link on your profile page or control panel after you have signed up that says "Upload," "Upload Music" or something similar. You will come to a page that will allow you to choose which song to upload. Select the feature for uploading more than one song at once if given the option. Click on "Choose File" or a similar option. A box will pop up that will allow you to navigate to where the songs are stored on your computer. Select the file and click "Open."

Click "Upload" when you have selected the music file. The page will display a loading bar or a spinning wheel to indicate that your file is in the process of uploading. This will take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection. You will get a confirmation on the page once the file is finished uploading. Now you can display the song as a player by "embedding" it into a web page with a simple HTML tag (see References).
