How to Transfer Songs From a PC Formatted iPod to a Mac

How to Transfer Songs From a PC Formatted iPod to a Mac thumbnail
iPods work with Macs and PCs.

Even though you may have been syncing your iPod to a PC, an iPod is able to sync to a Mac as well without needing to be formatted in any way. Because transferring songs requires the free iTunes software--which you can download on Macs and PCs--you may transfer your music to a Mac in the exact same way you transfer your music to a PC. Just because you connect your iPod to a PC, this does not mean the iPod changes in any way.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your iPod to your Mac computer, using the USB cord that came with the iPod when you purchased it.

    • 2

Click on the "iTunes" icon on your Mac's dock. iTunes will open.

    • 3

Click on the "iPod" icon that appears under the "Devices" menu on the left side of the iTunes page. A new iTunes window will open.

    • 4

Click on the "Music" tab at the top of the browser window. Click the "Sync Music" box and click the "Entire music library" radio button.

    • 5

Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window. Your iPod will now transfer its songs to the Mac.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't unplug your iPod until the "iPod sync is complete" message appears on the device's LCD screen.
