• Graph paper

Instructions

1. Make a floor plan of your bathroom. Use a measuring tape to get the exact dimensions. By using graph paper, you can make to-scale drawings. Making each square on the paper equal one inch.

2. Apply building codes regarding bathrooms. This is especially important if you're remodeling an existing bathroom in an older home or if the bathroom is small. When remodeling the bathroom sink, remember that it must be placed four inches from any side walls, and you must have 21 inches of space in front of the sink.

3. Pick a sink. The sink needs to fit into the space allotted for it. If you have a small bathroom, a smaller sink would work better because it would give the illusion of more space and maintain the necessary 21 inches of clearance before it. For example, a pedestal sink can give the impression of airiness in a small bathroom. If you have a larger bathroom, you can install a sink with a vanity or a sink on a counter since space would not be as much of a consideration.
