How to Drill Holes in a Glass Block Bar
Glass block can be a very brittle, difficult material to drill cleanly. Carbide-tipped bits can easily chip or crack the glass block, but diamond bits will drill into glass block cleanly. By keeping a fresh supply of water on the tip of the drill bit to reduce heat, you can drill into the glass block rather quickly.
Instructions

-
1
Place the glass block on stable, level ground (such as yard, sidewalk, driveway), with the side to be drilled pointing upwards.
-
2
Turn on your water hose and position the tip so that a small trickle of water is pointed toward the location for the hole. The water flow should remain steady throughout the entire drilling process.
-
-
3
Insert the diamond-tipped bit into your cordless drill. Set the drill speed to low.
-
4
Begin drilling the hole at the desired location. Use minimal pressure, allowing the drill bit to do the work.
-
5
Increase the speed of the bit after the pilot hole has started. Increase the water pressure from the hose to keep the bit cool and lubricated.
-
6
Drain any water that may have dripped into the block after the hole is completely drilled.

Tips & Warnings
If you choose to use a corded power drill, use extreme caution to avoid contact with the water from the water hose. Also, be sure to wear safety glasses when drilling glass block.
