How to Fix the "No DNS Error" on Windows XP SP2

How to Fix the "No DNS Error" on Windows XP SP2 thumbnail
No DNS means you computer can't properly connect to the Internet.

Resolving a No DNS error is generally as easy as calling your Internet Service Provider and getting a bit of information. The DNS, or Domain Name Server is specialized kind of web site your computer visits behind the scenes so that it can find out where to look for a web site you visited. For example, if you wanted to visit www.ehow.com, your computer would pay a visit to your DNS server and find out where ehow is located. However, if you get a no DNS server error, it means your computer can't find the DNS. It's an easy fix though.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Network and Internet Connections," find "Network Connections" and then right-click on your network connection (it's usually the first one listed).

    • 3

Look at both the "General" tab and the "Networking" tab and find a section called "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Click it and then click "Properties."

    • 4

Click "Obtain DNS server address automatically." Click "Apply." Check if your Internet connection is now working.

If it is not, contact your Internet Service Provider and ask for their DNS server addresses. You should get two strings of numbers. Click "Use the following DNS server Addresses" and then enter the strings of numbers into the two fields. Click "Apply."

Your Internet connection should now be working.
