How to Make Stick People Animations

Making simple stick people animations is easy and a good way to begin learning how to make cartoons. You learn to do this digitally with a simple animation program on your computer, or you can make your stick-person cartoon with a pencil and a stack of paper. This is also a good way to pass the time, because animating (even simple images such as stick figures) takes time. Make sure you have a few hours to devote to this project.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a free animation software such as "Stykz", "Pivot Stickfigure Animator" or "Pencil Animation". Follow the steps for installing the software on your computer and launch the program.

    • 2

Create a new document and type in the dimensions for your animation in pixels. You will see a series of frames, or you may be able to view each frame individually by scrolling from left to right. Select the "pencil" or "paintbrush" tool in your program, set the width of the pencil to the width you want and begin drawing. Draw a simple background first, if you want a background and draw your stick people in the starting position.

    • 3

Copy your first frame by right-clicking with your mouse on the frame and selecting "Copy". Scroll over to the next frame, right-click and select "Paste". You may also be able to copy and paste through the main menu in the program.

Edit the second frame so that the stick people have moved slightly from the position they were in in the first frame. Repeat the process until you are done with your animation. Click on the "Preview" function to see your animation in action as you work. Select "File, Save" on your main menu and give the animation a name.
