How to Make GIF Files From Videos

Save

GIF illustrations are made up of multiple images. These images can be animated to make GIF animations. GIF animations resemble videos, but do not have any sound. Many people often use GIF animations to enhance their avatar pictures online. Since videos are composed of numerous frames, it is possible to convert videos to GIF animations.

  • Download VirtualDub to convert videos to GIF images. VirtualDub is a free software that allows you to edit videos. The download link for VirtualDub can be found at the "Resources" section below.

  • Unzip the downloaded file. Right-click on the downloaded file, and select "Unzip" or "Extract" to unlock the zipped files.

  • Click on the "VirtualDub" icon to start the program. Next, click on "File" and then click on "Open Video File" to open your videos. You can also drag-and-drop your videos into the program.

  • Edit the videos by adding filters or by truncating. You can also change the frame rate to adjust the speed for the GIF animation. To do this, go to "Video" and select "Frame Rate."

  • Export the video file as GIF animations. Drag your mouse to the upper-left corner of the screen, and click on "File." Next, click on "Export" and select "Animated GIF." Your video will now be converted into an animated GIF file.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also create GIF animations with GIFninja and Advanced GIF Animator.
  • VirtualDub only allows AVI files to be converted into GIF files. Therefore, use a video converter to render your videos to AVI.
