How to Open a Timex Waterproof Watch to Replace the Battery

The Waterbury Watch Co. began making watches in the 1880s and produced the "Yankee" pocket watch in the early 1900s. The U.S. Army requested that Waterbury produce wrist watches for its soldiers in 1917, during World War I. The company was renamed the U.S. Time Co. in 1940. The name was changed to Timex in 1950, with the debut of the Timex wrist watch. Today the company makes men's and women's dress and sports watches in traditional and waterproof styles.       Turn the watch over and look for a small notch or indent on the side of the case back.

      Insert a small tool, such as the blade of a small traditional screwdriver, in the indentation between the case back and the side of the watch.

      Wiggle the tool slightly while turning the case back to the left. It should pop off.

      Gently pull out the watch battery and replace.

      Set the case back on the watch so that the notch lines up with the notch on the side of the watch. Gently press the case back with both thumbs until the case back pops back in.
