How to Make Origami Cranes With Regular Paper
Origami is a fun and easy paper craft that requires hardly any supplies. The origami crane is one of the most classic creations you can make, and it doesn't take more than a few minutes. First, though, you need a perfectly square piece of origami paper. Origami paper comes in a variety of colors and is much thinner than the average copy paper and construction paper. You always can buy origami paper from a craft store, but not to worry if you don't have any. You can make origami cranes out of any paper you have lying around by quickly making it into a square first.

1
Lay the rectangular piece of paper horizontally on a flat surface.
-
2
Fold one of the corners diagonally across to meet the other side of the paper. It doesn't matter which corner you use. Crease the paper well. The part you fold will create a perfect right triangle. The excess paper will be a rectangle.
-
-
3
Fold the excess paper over toward the triangle you just created. Crease and unfold. Cut with your scissors or sharp knife along the crease. The folded triangle will be the paper you are going to use. Unfold the triangle to reveal your perfectly square origami paper.
-
4
Begin folding the origami crane by placing your square paper with one corner pointing toward you.
-
5
Fold and unfold the top corner down to the bottom corner, creating a crease across the center. Fold and unfold the left corner over to the right corner, creating another center crease.
-
6
Flip the paper over. Fold and unfold the paper's top edge down to the bottom edge. Do the same thing from left to right. Unfold, and you will now have four center creases all going in different directions.
-
7
Point one of the corners toward you. Bring the top three corners down to the bottom corner, flattening it using the creases you just made. When it's flattened, you'll have a small square shape with three layers.
-
8
Take the left and right corners of the top layer and fold them in to meet at the center crease, forming a point at the bottom corner. Fold the top corner down, creating a small triangle. Crease and open all three folds.
-
9
Take the top layer of the bottom corner and open it up, bringing it up to the top. Using the creases you just made, bring the sides inward and flatten, forming a diamond shape.
-
10
Flip the paper over. Repeat steps 8 and 9 on the other side. You'll have a multilayered diamond shapes with separated flaps pointing down.
-
11
Fold the left and right corners of the top layers inward to meet the center, forming a sharp point at the bottom corner. Do the same on the other side.
-
12
Take the bottom flaps and fold them upward. They will each point at a slant outward. Crease and unfold. Create an inside reverse fold on each flap. To do this, fold the flap inward along the crease you made. Each flap will now point up and outward.
-
13
Take one of the tips of the flaps you just created and do another inside reverse fold to form the head. The head should point outward and down at a slight angle.
-
14
Fold each of the large wings down to complete the crane. Press down gently on the body to flatten it and pull the wings outward.
