Quickbooks is accounting software that allows an individual to create and edit invoices, create reports and view customer activity. You can purchase Quickbooks online or at your local office supply store. Installing the software can be an easy process; all you have to do is insert the CD into your computer. With Quickbooks, you can learn how to maintain your individual finances or the finances of your small business.

      Double click the Quickbooks icon on your desktop. The Quickbooks program will open up. A login screen will open, indicating where you should put your username and password. You can change your password anytime by clicking "Company" and selecting "Change Your Password."

      Click the "Invoice" icon on the toolbar. The "Create Invoices" screen will open, displaying a blank invoice. Fill in the invoice as desired and save the document.

      Click on the "Customer: Job" drop-down tab. You have the choice of creating a new customer entry or selecting a customer that is already on the list. To add a new customer entry, select "Add New" after you have clicked on the drop-down tab. A window will open which will allow you to enter information about the new customer, such as company name and contact information. Click "OK" to save the entry and add it to the list.

      Select the "Cust" icon on the toolbar, to open the customer inquiry balances and reports. The "Customer Job List" will open. The Customer Job List will include the customer name and their outstanding balances. On the bottom toolbar, click "Reports." You will be able to run several different reports about customer activity and outstanding balances.
