How to Get the Rock Band Guitar to Work on the PC

Rock Band is a home video game for the Sony PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles. It allows you to use a guitar-shaped controller to play more than 30 contemporary and classic rock songs. Even though there is no version of Rock Band for the PC, you can still hook your Rock Band guitar controller up to your personal computer. Because the Rock Band guitar controller connects to devices via USB, it is a "plug and play" device that will work automatically on your computer.

  • Make sure your Rock Band guitar controller has batteries and is switched on (if you are using a wireless controller).

  • Insert the USB plug on the end of the Rock Band guitar controller's USB cable into a USB port on your computer. If you're using a wireless controller, insert the USB wireless connection device into a USB port on your computer.

  • Turn on your computer. Once your operating system boots up, Windows will recognize that a new device is connected to your computer via USB. It then will install generic drivers that will allow your Rock Band guitar to work on your personal computer.
