How to Care for a Cherry Veneer Finished Table

Veneers mean different things to different people. To the kings and queens of the fanciest royal courts, they referred to the most exquisitely inlaid woodwork that adorned their palaces. To us modern folk, it means paper-thin pieces of good wood laminated to cheaper wood to make affordable, nice-looking furniture. Cherry wood veneers are extremely popular because solid cherry is beyond most budgets. Maintaining cherry veneers is not much different from caring for solid cherry. With a little extra loving attention, you can maintain cherry veneers and have furniture fit for royalty. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dust your cherry veneer table at least once a week. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe the dust gently away, being careful not to rub it into the finish.

    • 2

Fill a small bowl with warm water and add 2 to 3 healthy squirts of mild dish soap. Dip a clean, lint-free cloth into the solution and wring it out until it is barely damp. Wash your cherry veneer table gently, and wipe it dry with a clean, dry cloth.

    • 3

Spray a clean, lint-free cloth with a fine mist of good quality furniture polish and softly massage it into your table. This will add shine, but it also puts down a light protective coating. Use a teaspoon or so of lemon oil if you prefer not to use a spray.

Tips & Warnings

  • Encourage the use of coasters and placemats to keep your cherry veneer table looking new.

  • Never set any kind of food or drink directly onto the surface of a cherry veneer table.
