How to Obtain a Temporary Working Visa in Canada
Temporary positions available in Canada require a temporary work visa if you are not a Canadian citizen. Many employers support immigrant workers who help fill temporary positions when there is a lack of Canadian workers. The visa application for temporary workers in Canada requires that the applicant provide many different documents for the Citizenship and Immigration of Canada before the applicant is granted a temporary work visa.

Download and print the application package from the Citizenship and Immigration of Canada (CIC) website. The three PDF downloads required for a temporary work visa are the Instruction Guide, Application for Work Permit and Document Checklist.

Obtain a valid passport from your home country. The passport must be valid for at least six months after your intended date of departure from Canada (this is the date that you plan on leaving Canada after you have completed your work contract). There must also be at least one free page to place the appropriate work permit stickers and stamps within the passport. You will not be able to complete the application process without a valid passport.

Acquire appropriate documents that you need to submit with the completed application. The application will require that you show proof of a job offer. This is verified by a copy of a job contract or a letter from the employer. You must also provide proof that you are skilled for the position. Skills can be verified with proof of prior education in the field or work experience.

Complete the application. There are several questions on the application which include full name, name of your dependents, citizenship information, passport information, Canadian job information, work history and your education.

Pay the visa processing fees. Check on the CIC website to see what the current fees are and which visa office you have to submit the application to. The method of payment required will depend on the requirements of the visa office. No personal checks will be accepted at any of the offices.

Submit the application along with the appropriate documents and the visa processing fee. Include a prepaid return envelop for your passport to be returned in. The application processing times may vary so check on the CIC website to see how long it will take you to retrieve your work permit.
