How to Change an Ink Cartridge in the Epson Printer

Epson printers have long been popular choices for both home and business users, and these printers are generally user friendly. Even so it is important for printer owners to know the proper procedures for common tasks, such as removing old ink cartridges and installing new ones.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the cover of the printer, then press and hold the "Maintenance" button for approximately 6 seconds. This should cause the print cartridges to move to the center of the printer, where it will be easier to work with them.

    • 2

Lift the clamp covering the old print cartridge up all the way and carefully lift the old cartridge out of the printer. You may need to tilt the print cartridge forward and then lift up. Put the used print cartridge aside and have it recycled. Computer recycling centers, community organizations, non-profit organizations and office supply stores often accept used inkjet cartridges for recycling.

    • 3

Remove the new inkjet cartridge from its wrapping and carefully remove the protective tape that covers the bottom of the cartridge. As you remove the protective tape, be careful not to touch any of the metal components of the print cartridge. The oils from your fingers could damage those components. Do not remove the print cartridges from the wrapping or remove the protective tape until you are ready to install them in the printer.

    • 4

Tilt the new inkjet cartridge slightly forward as you push it into place in the print head. After the bottom of the print cartridge is seated, push back on the cartridge until it snaps into place.

    • 5

Push the "Maintenance" button to begin charging the new ink cartridge. This charging process will take about a minute, and you will know it is complete when the error light goes out and the power light stops flashing.

    • 6

Close the printer cover and send your print job to the printer. Verify that the print quality is acceptable.
