How to Install a Game With an ISO File

Save

With the spread of broadband, some game developers have turned to allowing direct downloads as a means of transmitting software titles to users. This allows the software companies to realize greater profit by cutting out the publishers and the costs of packaging and creating discs. However, if the company opts to distribute games as CD images such as an ISO, this could cause issues for users who do not know how to burn a CD, or don't have the equipment to do so.

Things You'll Need

  • Daemon Tools Lite
  • -or-
  • MagicISO MagicDisc
  • Slysoft's Virtual CloneDrive

Daemon Tools Lite

  • Download and install Daemon Tools Lite. Reboot your system so the Daemon Tools device driver will be properly loaded.

  • Left-click on the Daemon Tools icon in the "System Tray" and then click on the virtual drive. A dialog will pop up for you to select your ISO image to mount. Select it.

  • Install the game. If it is configured to do so, the game's splash screen or setup routine will auto-run. If it does not, simply navigate to the disc's setup program as you would with a real CD.

MagicISO MagicDisc

  • Download and Install the MagicDisc application.

  • Right-click on the MagicDisc icon in the "System Tray" and select "Virtual CD/DVD-ROM" then the virtual drive, and then "Mount..." In the dialog that pops up, select the disc image you want to use.

  • Install your game the same as you would if you were using a real CD.

Slysoft Virtual CloneDrive

  • Download and install the Virtual CloneDrive application.

  • Navigate to your disc image, select it and then right-click it. Select "Open With" and then "Mount Files with virtual CloneDrive." This will create a virtual drive and mount the disc image.

  • Run the game's setup routine to install as you normally would.
