How to Change the Language for the XP Operating System

In Windows XP, you can customize and set up a number of languages and dialects depending on your region and location. Windows XP supports more than 100 languages and dialects, including Spanish, Italian and Swahili. While you can only use one language at a time, you can configure multiple languages and switch back and forth between them anytime you want. Change your Windows XP language quickly using some simple steps.

      Click the Windows "Start" button, click the "Control Panel" and click "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options." Click "Add other languages" to launch the "Regional and language options" dialog box.

      Click the "Languages" tab and click the "Details" button to launch the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialog box. Click "Add," and select the input language you want to use. Select the dialect you want to use as well, and click "OK" to save the changes.

      Select the new language in the "Default input language" box and click "OK" to save the changes. Check the "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages" and "Install files for East Asian languages" boxes. Click the "Regional Options" tab and select your region in the "Standards and Formats" list. Select your location in the "Locations" list and click "OK" to save the changes.

      Click the language bar next to the clock on the system tray if you want to switch languages. In the pop-up menu, select the language and dialect you want to use.
