How to Install a Lexmark Z600 Printer on a Windows XP Without a CD

The Lexmark Z600 is an inkjet printer designed for use with computers running the Windows operating system. Its features include a maximum print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, color print speed of 14 pages per minute, black print speed of eight pages per minute and the capacity to print on a variety of media, including envelopes, transparencies and photo paper. If you have lost the disc that came packaged with your Lexmark Z600, you can still install the necessary software in Windows XP via alternative means.

Instructions

1. Navigate your web browser to Lexmark's driver download page for the Z600 (See Resources). Click on the link labeled “Download Now” and save the installer to an easily accessible location.

2. Examine the rear panel of the printer and find the power adapter and USB ports, located near the left edge of the device. Insert the power adapter into the printer, taking care to ensure that the power cord port faces outward. Confirm that the power adapter is fully seated, then connect the printer's power cord to the power adapter. Plug the remaining end of the power cord into a nearby outlet.

3. Examine the top of the printer and press the power button, located near the right edge of the device. Lift the paper's input tray and slide the paper guide toward the outside edge of the tray. Lift the print cover and wait for the cartridge holder to move into view.

4. Remove the ink cartridges from their packaging. Lift the cover latch on the left ink cartridge holder and insert the tri-color ink cartridge. Lower the cover latch, then press down on the front of the latch until it locks into place. Open the cover latch on the right ink cartridge holder and repeat the installation process with the black ink cartridge. Close the print cover.

5. Extend the paper output tray, located on the front of the printer, near the bottom edge. Insert paper into the input tray and slide the paper guide inward, until it touches the edge of the paper.

6. Insert one end of the USB cable into the printer's USB port. Connect the remaining end into any available USB port on your computer. If the “New Hardware Found” screen appears on your computer, click on the button labeled “Cancel.” Locate and launch the previously downloaded installer application. Click on the button labeled “Install” and follow the onscreen instructions.
