The Sony PlayStation Portable uses the Memory Stick Pro Duo to store information. These memory cards have been doubling in size every year since they were released. As of April 2010, they could store 16 gigabytes. Upgrading your Sony PSP memory stick is a quick and simple process.

      Turn off your Sony PSP and open the memory stick slot on the side of the PSP. Press in slightly on the memory stick until you hear a slight click. The memory stick will pop out. Place it to the side.

      Prepare your new memory stick by removing it from the packaging. Insert the memory stick into the PSP. You cannot use the memory stick because it is not in the PSP format.

      Navigate to the "System Settings" page and select "Format Memory Stick." Select "OK" to format the memory stick and convert it to the PSP format. When the process is completed, your PSP memory capabilities will have been upgraded.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can back up your old memory stick by copying all the contents of the memory stick onto your computer and copying them back onto the new card.
