How to Make a Fleece Blanket Without Sewing
Fleece blankets can be made quickly without any sewing at all. A variety of fleece styles, colors and even prints help the do-it-yourself craftsperson create a welcome addition to any bedroom that's both personal and warm.

1
Cut fleece, to an appropriate length, from a bolt at a fabric store. One yard will be fine for a baby blanket, a yard and three-quarters will be good for a young child, and two yards (or more if you're making this for a very tall person) for an adult-size blanket.
-
2
Lay out your fleece fabric flat on a clean surface. Using a ruler and fabric pencil (to predraw lines and follow with the scissors), cut off any selvage that may be on the edges and any rough cutting the store may have left behind.

3
Cut a 4-inch square out of each corner for an adult or youth blanket, or cut 3-inch squares for a baby blanket. Create a fringe by cutting a 4-inch (or 3-inch if you've cut away smaller squares from the corners) slash every inch or so--all the way around the edges of your blanket.

Leave the edges as loose fringe; due to the nature of fleece, it will not fray or unravel. For a more finished look, tie each fringe off. If you want to make an extra-warm blanket, utilize this method with two equal pieces of fleece and tie the top and lower halves together at the fringe.

Tips & Warnings
Many people like to wash fabric before using it to bring out any shrinkage; however, most fleece is made of polyester and will not shrink discernibly.
Experiment with tying methods but take care not to overtighten any knots, which can stretch out fleece.
Look for anti-pill fleece, as it tends to not wear out as quickly as other fleeces and comes in the warmer, polar-fleece type.
Take care with scissors, especially when supervising a child who is cutting fabric.
Never underestimate the importance of quality scissors. Attempting to cut fleece with dull or "office" scissors may cause frustration and be dangerous.
