How to Repair an FM Stereo Receiver in an MP3 Player

Some MP3 players have a built-in FM stereo receiver. This allows you to listen to radio stations nearby. However, while using the built-in FM receiver you can run into some issues, including the receiver's not even picking up station signals. If this is the case you need to perform a few troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your MP3 player. The FM stereo receiver may just not have been detected on startup. See if the FM receiver appears once you restart the device.

    • 2

Attach an antenna, if necessary. Many devices, including some iPods, do require you to connect an outside device to enable the FM receiver's reception. Without the outside device you cannot obtain any audio from the receiver.

    • 3

Move to a location with a better signal. If you are in your basement or in a room without any windows you may just not have any signal with the FM receiver. The antenna built into most MP3 devices is weak, so you are not going to receive good reception anyway.

    • 4

Restore your MP3 player to its factory settings. Doing this will erase all the player's current information (although you can upload it again using your computer). The exact way of doing this is will vary from device to device, so check your user manual for exact steps on how to restore the MP3 player. Restoring the device should bring back the FM receiver functions.
