Instructions

    • 1

Determine how large you want your brick fence to be by measuring the area where you want to build. Check with your local building office to determine whether there are any restrictions on building brick fences or walls in your area.

    • 2

Rake the area where you want to build your brick fence. Apply a half-inch layer of sand to the dirt and mix it in using the hoe to create a more compact surface for the brick. Use a piece of wood and a bar level to ensure that the entire area is perfectly flat.

    • 3

Cut the plywood into two square pieces of mortarboard to use to mix your mortar.

    • 4

Mix the mortar in a wheelbarrow, following the instructions on the package.

    • 5

Lay one layer of bricks in the design of your choice, such as herringbone. Apply a level 1/2-inch layer of mortar with the trowel. Set another layer of bricks. Scrape excess mortar away with the trowel and wipe it clean with a rag.

    • 6

Use the bar level to ensure that the wall is level. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until you reach the desired height of your fence.
