Rearrange the furniture if necessary to create an open, airy feel to the room. Get rid of furniture that adds a feeling of clutter to the room and refinish or repaint any pieces that are older and out of date. Add new hardware, such as handles, to dressers and bedside tables.

Use lighting to brighten up the room and add a sophisticated touch. Bedside lamps, overhead lighting or even pendant lighting work well in a chic bedroom. Add square lampshades for clean lines or hang a large light fixture with two smaller matching fixtures over the bedside tables.

Use colors to create a put-together look to the room. For a chic look, use primary colors such as white, black, chocolate brown or taupe and incorporate them into the room by painting one accent wall and adding a duvet cover.
