4
Plan a Moroccan-themed menu. Popular Moroccan foods include chicken, beef and lamb kebobs, tamarind-glazed chicken or shrimp, saffron rice, couscous, spiced almond cookies, chicken baked with lemons and olives, tanjin, fresh salads, pita bread, falafel, oranges, dates, pistachios, baklava, roasted peppers and stuffed grape leaves. Consider serving Moroccan mint tea and drinks made out of pomegranate juice.

Plan the décor. A room with a Moroccan feel looks soft with the help of drapes, candles and pillows. Create this ambiance by visiting a fabric store or thrift shop and purchasing lightweight fabric or curtains that are deep red, brown, gold, dark blue and/or orange. Drape the fabric along the walls of the room and secure them with pins or tacks to create a billowing look. If possible, drape the fabric from the top of a room’s walls to the middle of the ceiling to make a room look like the inside of a tent. Set items around the room that have colored glass, are gold-colored, have unique exotic designs and sparkle.

Provide guests with ample choices of places to sit by setting out large, soft ottomans; utilize chaise lounges and benches cushioned with pillows. Purchase or make oversized pillows for guests to sit on as well. Set out traditional low tables around the room as a place for guests to dine. Place exotic-looking lanterns or tea lights in beaded votive holders on top of a mirror to serve as the centerpiece for each table.

Plan the entertainment. Be sure to set the mood with Moroccan music. If you want to go all out, pay belly dancers to entertain the guests and then provide lessons. Guests can also decorate their bodies with temporary henna tattoos. So even the shyest guests participate, hand out finger cymbals as a party favor so people can chime along with the music.
