How to Hang Outside Plastic Shutters
Exterior shutters add a touch of color to all types of homes whether the house has vinyl siding or brick walls. The color choice is a matter of personal preference; most homeowners choose a color that will contrast with the wall colors of the home. Consider the color of your roof shingles and the color of window trim to choose shutters in a complementary color. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Position the shutters onto the house wall, butting up to the window trim. Make a light pencil mark on the wall along the bottom edge of the shutters.
-
2
Hold the shutters to the wall in the position you have chosen and mark the screw holes onto the wall. Use a drill to drill a pilot hole if the shutters are being mounted on wood or vinyl siding. Drill a larger hole into brick siding to insert an anchor. Consult the anchor package for the proper size masonry bit.

3
Insert the screws into the holes in the shutters aligning with the previously drilled pilot holes in the wood or vinyl siding. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver until they are tight and snug. Avoid over-tightening the screws---they will embed into the plastic shutter and can crack the surface.
-
4
Tap anchors into the holes drilled in brick siding with a hammer. Insert the screws through the holes in the shutter and tighten. Again, don't over-tighten the screws---they can pull the anchor out of the brick.
