How to Locate the Memory Module in a Dell 1521 Laptop
The Dell 1521 is a laptop that makes it somewhat challenging to get to the memory module. Many laptops' memory modules are located on the underside of the machine, in an easily accessible compartment. In this model, however, the memory is stored under the keyboard.

Shut down all programs and turn off your laptop. Unplug it from its power source.

Touch a piece of unpainted metal to remove the static electricity from your body and clothes. Static electricity can cause damage to hardware in your laptop.

Take the battery out of the laptop.

Open the laptop so the display is almost parallel to the keyboard.

Slide a screwdriver in the indent of the hinge cover and the keyboard. Pry up the edge of the hinge cover. Work your way around the indent, gently prying the cover off the keyboard.

Unfasten and remove the two small screws at the top of the keyboard.

Lift the top of the keyboard toward you. Move the keyboard cable latch upward so that the cable releases. The latch is under the space key. Slide out the cable. Remove the keyboard.

Find the black memory module cover underneath the keyboard, near the bottom of the laptop. Press the latch next to the cover toward it. The cover will flip toward you.

View the memory module stored under the cover.
