How to Setup Outlook Express With Yahoo Mail
If you have Yahoo Mail Plus, a premium subscription service with Yahoo Mail, you can use Outlook Express to receive and send mail instead of visiting the Yahoo Mail website. Many users prefer Outlook Express to web-based mail because it does not require opening the browser, does not have any ads, and has more powerful tools for formatting, sorting and sending mail. After creating a Yahoo Mail Plus account through the Yahoo website, you can take 10 minutes to set up Outlook Express with your Yahoo Mail account.

1
Click on the “Tools” menu in Outlook Express, and then click “Accounts,” the “Mail” tab, “Add,” and “Mail.”
-
2
Type your name in the box as you would like it to appear with any outgoing messages you send. This means that mail that other people receive from you will have this name listed in the “From” section. Click “Next.”
-
-
3
Type your full Yahoo email address in the box provided in the window. This includes the @yahoo.com portion of your email address. Click “Next” to continue.
-
4
Click on the arrow next to the first space and select “POP3” from the options. Type plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com in the section that asks for the incoming mail server and type plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com in the section that asks for the incoming mail server. Then click “Next.”
-
5
Type your Yahoo account name and password in the indicated boxes. Your account name is the portion of your Yahoo email address before the “@yahoo.com.” Your password is the password you use to log into your Yahoo email account through the yahoo website. Check the box next to “Remember password” if you would prefer that Outlook Express not require you to type your password every time you access your email on this computer. Do not check the box next to “Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)”. Click “Next” and then “Finish” to complete the initial setup process. You should now see this account listed in the “Internet Accounts” window that is still open.
-
6
Select your Yahoo account by clicking on plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com under “Accounts” and then click “Properties” and the “Servers” tab. Check the box next to “My server requires authentication” and then click on the “Advanced” tab at the top of the window.
-
7
Check both boxes next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”. Type 465 for the outgoing mail (SMTP) and 995 for the incoming mail (POP3). Check the box next to “Leave a copy of messages on server” if you would like a copy of the messages to remain in your Web-based Yahoo account. Click “OK” and “Close” to finish the setup of your Yahoo Mail account in Outlook Express.
