Many people use grills to cook their food outdoors as a popular summertime activity. Stainless steel grills are long lasting and easy to clean and maintain. However, prolonged exposure to the elements can cause stainless steel grills to become rusty. Owners should clean stainless steel grills after every cookout to prevent rust and allow them to last longer. You can remove rust and corrosion from a stainless steel grill with simple cleaning materials.
Things You'll Need
- Steel wool pad
- Liquid dish detergent
- White vinegar
- Damp cloth
- Stainless steel polish
- Old rag
Gently rub the rusty areas on the grill with a steel wool pad to remove the rust. Apply light force to the steel wool to prevent scratching the stainless steel.
Mix liquid dish detergent and water together in a bucket. Dip a sponge into the solution, and then scrub the stainless steel to remove any dirt, grease, or residue. Washing the stainless steel will also help you to identify any more rust spots that need removal.
Remove any further rust by using white vinegar and the steel wool pad. Pour the white vinegar onto the steel wool pad, and then gently rub the remaining rust stains in a circular motion.
Rinse the entire stainless steel grill with a damp cloth, and then thoroughly dry the grill with a towel. Protect the grill from further rust by applying an even coat of stainless steel polish to the stainless steel portions of the grill with an old rag.
