How to Measure Treeless Saddles
Treeless saddles are designed to be comfortable for both horse and rider, but these saddles can only be effective if they fit your body. If the saddle you ride in is too large, your seat will not be secure. If the saddle seat is too small for your body, you will quickly become uncomfortable, even on a short ride. Choosing the right saddle size allows you to enjoy a safe and comfortable ride, no matter what style of riding you prefer.

Measuring the Treeless English Saddle

Place the saddle on a sturdy saddle stand, making it easier to get an accurate measurement.

Locate the small round buttons on the front of the English saddle. There is a small silver button on each side of the saddle.

Place the end of the tape measure against this silver button. Extend the tape measure to the back of the saddle seat and note the reading. This is the size of the English saddle seat.

Sit in the saddle and make sure it feels comfortable. The saddle should not be so large that you slide around on the seat, but it should not be so small that you feel cramped. There are some basic guidelines to translate your size to the recommended seat size (See Resources) but the best way to ensure a proper fit is to actually sit in the saddle.

Place the end of the measuring tape at the back of the saddle horn and extend it to the back of the saddle seat.
