How to Obtain a Visa to Visit Egypt

If you are interested in visiting the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza, the North African country of Egypt would be your destination. You must apply for a visa if you intend to visit the country. The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt and its consular offices in locations such as San Francisco, Chicago, Houston and New York process and approve visa applications to the country. You may apply for your visa in person or by mail.

Instructions

      Have one 2-inch x 2-inch color or black/white passport-sized photos taken.

      Make copies of your U.S. Immigration document, such as a copy of your Green Card or U.S. visa, round-trip tickets and/or travel itinerary, if you are not a U.S. citizen.

      Get a letter from your company or contact in Egypt stating the purpose of your trip, if you are applying for a Business visa. The letter must also state that your company and/or contact in Egypt assumes all financial responsibility during your stay in the country.

      Download a visa application form from the Embassy of Egypt's--in Washington, DC--homepage (see Resources).

      Complete the visa application form by hand.

      Print the completed application form and then affix your passport photo in the box provided on the top right-hand corner.

      Pay the processing fee for your specific visa type by making a money order payable to the Embassy/Consulate of Egypt with jurisdiction over your state of residence; as of April 2010, this fee is USD $15 for citizens of the United States, Russia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Cyprus, Guinea and Germany. If you are not a citizen of one of these countries, the visa fee for your country is listed on the "Fees Visa" page of the Embassy of Egypt homepage (see Resources).

      Mail your completed application, valid passport and supporting documents via certified mail to the Egyptian Embassy/Consulate that has jurisdiction over your state of residence (see Resources). A self-addressed stamped envelope with tracking from a courier such as USPS, UPS or FedEx, must accompany your application.
