How to Create a Hyperlink in Mail

Save

By adding a hyperlink in your email message, you are able to direct the email recipient to another website to get more information about a topic. It's a great alternative to copying and pasting the contents of the website into the body of the email message, since copying and pasting can cause you to quickly exceed the allowed message size. Adding the email hyperlink is easy with Outlook Express, Eudora and through online programs like Google, Yahoo! and Hotmail. If you are using Microsoft Entourage, you will not be able to hyperlink your text because the Entourage HTML editor does not allow it.

Outlook Express

  • Open your Outlook Express email client. Select the “Create Mail” option that is located on the Outlook Express toolbar.

  • Type the intended recipient's email address in the “To” field. Indicate what your message is about in the “Subject” field. Type your message in the “Body” section of the email window.

  • Drag your mouse over the text you want to create a hyperlink for. This will cause the text to become highlighted.

  • Right-click on the highlighted text. Select “Hyperlink.”

  • Type inside of the “URL” box the website address you want to send the reader to. Click “OK.”

Eudora

  • Open your Eudora email client. Click “Message” from the menu bar. Select “New Message.”

  • Complete the “To” field with the recipient's email address. Complete the “Subject” field with the subject of your message. Type your message in the “Body” section. Highlight the text you wish to create a hyperlink for.

  • Click the “Chain” icon that is located on the Eudora toolbar.

  • Type the website address you want to send the reader to. Click “OK.”

Gmail, Yahoo! and Hotmail

  • Log in to your Gmail, Yahoo! or Hotmail email account. Click on the “New” or “Compose Mail” option to create a new message.

  • Complete the “To” field with the recipient's email address. Complete the “Subject” field with the subject of your message. Type your message in the “Body” section.

  • Highlight the text you wish to create a hyperlink for.

  • Click the “Chain” icon that is located on the toolbar. In Yahoo! and Hotmail, the chain will have the picture of a globe next to it.

  • Type the website address you want to send the reader to. Click “OK.”
