How to Crochet Mittens Easily

• Worsted weight yarn
• Crochet hook size US H
• Scissors
• Large eye blunt needle

Instructions

1. Make 11 chain stitches and single crochet in the second chain from the hook and each chain across. Chain one and turn. Make two single crochet stitches in the first stitch; then make one single crochet in every stitch across the rest of the row and make two single crochets in the last stitch. Chain one and turn, and make a single crochet stitch in every stitch across. Chain one and turn, making two single crochets in the first and last stitches of the row and one in all the stitches in between.

2. Chain one and turn, and make one single crochet stitch in every stitch across the row. Repeat this step until the mitten is the desired length. Then repeat steps one and two a second time to make the second half of the mitten, and two more times to make the second mitten.

3. Place the mitten halves together with right sides facing. Use a large eye blunt needle and an extra length of yarn to slip stitch around the outside seams to attach the two pieces together. When you come to the place where the thumb would be, leave a hole and then stitch down the remainder of the seam. Be sure to leave the bottom section open entirely. Repeat for the second mitten.

4. Turn the mittens right side out and attach the yarn on the edge of the hole you left for the thumb. Single crochet evenly around the opening, then join with a slip stitch to make a circle. Chain one and make one single crochet in every stitch around and join with a slip stitch; repeat this until the desired size is reached. Chain one and make single crochet two together stitches around, then repeat this step for one more round. Cut your working yarn with a four-inch tail and thread the tail onto a large eye blunt needle. Weave the needle through the remaining stitches in order to close the hole, then pull the yarn down into the inside of the thumb and weave in the ends. Repeat this step for the second mitten.

5. Join your yarn to the bottom edge of one of the mittens. Single crochet evenly around the edge, then join with a slip stitch to form a circle. Chain one and single crochet in every stitch around; repeat this step for two more rounds and fasten off. Repeat on the second mitten. Weave in any remaining loose ends and your mittens are ready to wear.
