Bamboo skewers must first be soaked

Bamboo skewers are used to make kabobs on a grill. They must be soaked before using or else they can burn up from the heat of the grill. Once soaked, you can place meat, fruit or vegetables on them and grill them as usual. Metal skewers do not need to be soaked. A nice thing about using bamboo skewers, as opposed to metal skewers, is that they do not get too hot on the grill, and can be held immediately after removing from the grill.   • Bamboo skewers
  • Bowl
  • Water

Instructions

    • 1

      Put a few inches of water in a shallow bowl or pan.

    • 2

      Put the bamboo skewers into the water, making sure they all go under the water.

    • 3

      Leave the skewers in the water for at least 20 minutes.

    • 4

      Take the skewers out of the water and put your food onto them, ready to go on the grill.
