1
Wash your walls before you begin adding primer. Dirt and caked-on grime can interfere with the texture of the paint. After you clean, let the walls dry completely before you continue.
-
2
Lay out a large tarp over your floor to protect it from paint spatter. You also should line your counters, cabinets, cupboards and windows with masking tape. The masking tape allows you to paint right up to the edge of a surface without spreading paint to other areas.

Pour white primer into your paint tray and thoroughly coat your paint roller. Begin applying the primer at one corner of the room and work your way around the room. Wait for the first coat of primer to dry before adding another. The primer allows the red paint to stick better, plus it blocks out the old paint and stains on the wall, making the new red paint as red as it can be.

4
Let the second coat of primer dry completely before you add the first layer of red. Dispose of your used paint rollers and acquire fresh ones for the red paint. Clean your paint tray thoroughly before you pour in the red paint. If any white primer mixes in with the red, the paint will appear pink in some places.

5
Pry open the lid of your paint can with a flathead screwdriver. Mix the paint with a mixing stick. Pour your red paint into the paint tray. Coat your paint roller with the red paint.
-
6
Apply the paint to the wall generously. You may need to apply three coats or more to get the full effect of the red color. Let each coat of paint dry thoroughly before you add another

7
Pull the masking tape off your surfaces after the final coat of paint dries. Remove the tarp from the floor as well.

Tips & Warnings
Add borders to the top and bottom of the wall to give the room a nice clean edge.
Use a semigloss of gloss paint for your kitchen. It repels most moisture and is easy to clean.
Always properly ventilate a room before you start painting. If you begin to feel dizzy at any time during the painting process, leave the room until the dizziness passes.
Use gloves, smocks and goggles to protect your skin and clothes from paint spatter while you work. Wear clothes you are not afraid to get dirty while you paint.
