Microsoft Outlook Express is a mail application which works in conjunction with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser and Windows operating system. In order to check your email in Outlook Express you have to configure Outlook Express to connect to the mail server which houses your email account. A mail server is a computer that connects directly to the internet, functioning as a portal to the World Wide Web, to send, receive, and store the email correspondences of its users. To check Yahoo email in Outlook Express you have to configure your Outlook Express to connect to Yahoo’s mail server.

Instructions

      Launch your MS Outlook Express.

      Go to the “Tools” menu and select “Accounts.”

      Initiate the “Internet Connection Wizard” by going to the “Mail” tab; select “Add.” Click “Mail.”

      Type your name, as you want it to appear in the emails you send, in the “Display name” field. Click “Next.”

      Type your complete Yahoo email address in the “E-mail address” field. Click “Next.”

      Select “POP3” for your “incoming mail server.” Type “plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com” in the “Incoming mail” field; and “plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com” in the “Outgoing mail” field. Click “Next.”

      Type your Yahoo user name (which is your email address without the “@yahoo.com” domain added) in the “Account name” field. Type your Yahoo email account password in the “Password” field. Check the box next to “Remember password.” Click “Next.” Click “Finished.” This should bring you back to the “Internet Accounts” dialog box. If it doesn’t, go back to the “Tools” menu and select “Accounts” again.

      Highlight, by clicking on, the “plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com” account. Click “Properties.”

      Go to the “Servers” tab. Check the box next to “My server requires authentication.”

      Go to the “Advanced” tab. Type “465” in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) field. Check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL).” Type “995” in the “Incoming mail (POP3) field. Check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL). Click “OK.”

      Close the “Internet Account” dialog box by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will now be able to send and receive emails from your Yahoo account through Microsoft Outlook Express. To check your Yahoo email on Outlook Express, open MS Outlook Express. In the mail box, open your Yahoo email folder. Click on the inbox contained in this folder to view your Yahoo mail.
