How to Hook Up a Verizon 7500 Wireless Router

A Verizon 7500 wireless router is a DSL modem and router combination unit made by Westell. Setting up a 7500 is similar to setting up a DSL modem, but you can connect up to four computers to the 7500, instead of just one to a regular DSL modem. You can also connect wirelessly. The 7500 comes preconfigured with a SSID (network name) and a network password. To connect wirelessly, though, you must configure your computer with the correct settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the phone cord from the wall jack to the "DSL" port on the back of the Verizon 7500 wireless router. Turn on the Verizon 7500.

    • 2

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the back of the router to the computer if you are using a wired connection. Otherwise, open the wireless utility on your computer. The wireless utility can be opened by double-clicking on the wireless icon in the system tray located in the bottom-right corner of the desktop. The wireless icon looks like a computer with growing arcs coming out of it (like a signal).

    • 3

Select the SSID for the Verizon 7500 in the list of available networks on the wireless utility. The SSID is printed on the router.

    • 4

Double-click on the SSID, then enter the security password that is printed on the router. You should now be able to connect to the Internet wirelessly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to change the SSID and security key, open a Web browser and type in "192.168.1.1", then press "Enter." Enter "admin" as the username and "password" as the password. Click on "Wireless Settings" to change the SSID and security key.
