How to Make a Diaper Wreath Frame

A wreath frame is to a wreath what a spine is to a human being, it provides structure. A handmade baby-diaper wreath is a whimsical baby shower gift. The presentation of individual baby items, presented in the form of a wreath, is a unique way to shower the expectant parents with essential items for their newborn. Along with diapers, this wreath is composed of items like rattles, baby bottles and booties. A wreath requires a solid underlying structure to make an attractive presentation. If you're creating a diaper wreath, you can make a sturdy frame for pennies in a couple of ways.

Instructions

  1. Wire

    • 1

Take a wire coat hanger and start stretching the wire below the twist which is directly below the hanger's hook. Stretch the bottom of the coat hanger into a circle.

    • 2

Repeat with a second coat hanger. The more hangers used, the stronger the wreath frame.

    • 3

Stack the wire hangers, now in the form of wire circles, one on top of the other. Take floral tape and wrap it around the stacked hangers until they're completely encased in tape.

    Grass

    • 4

Collect long grasses. This could be pampas grass, wheat or long swamp grasses.

    • 5

Lay the grasses out. Determine how thick the frame should be and pull together a bundle of grass that will create the diameter of the frame desired. Start wrapping the bundle with florist wire.

    • 6

When half the bundle is wrapped with wire, add in the next bunch of grasses. Stuff the ends into the tips of the current bundle being wired wrapped. Blend the two bundles of grasses together so they overlap. Continue wrapping with wire and bending the grasses into a circle.

    • 7

Repeat until a complete circle of grass has been formed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the grasses are too brittle to bend into a curve, soak them in water first to make them pliable.

  • Watch for any small bugs on the harvested grasses while wire wrapping them into a wreath shape.
