How to Use K9 Advantix on Two Dogs

How to Use K9 Advantix on Two Dogs thumbnail
Dogs that roughhouse should be separated until the K9 Advantix dries.

Flea, tick and mosquito prevention is an important part of a dog’s overall care, and many dog owners apply K9 Advantix to their dogs, which helps to protect them against all three. If you have more than one dog that needs an application, you may wonder what is the best way to go about it. Fortunately, applying the preventive is quick and easy, and most dogs are compliant with the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick the dog you feel would benefit from going first. If you have dogs that are nervous or wary about the process, order of application can be important. Consider choosing the braver dog to go first, as the more nervous dog may benefit from watching the other dog. Or perhaps the more nervous dog would do better by getting the process out of the way.

    • 2

Place your dog in a standing position. Stand beside or behind the dog, whatever is more comfortable for each of you.

    • 3

Spread the hair between the shoulder blades apart until about one inch of skin is revealed. The hair should be separated so that skin is seen in a vertical direction.

    • 4

Squeeze the entire contents of the tube directly on the skin in the exposed spot if the dog weighs 20 lbs. or less. If the dog weighs more, empty part of the tube on the spot.

    • 5

If the dog weighs more than 20 lbs, move down its back a few inches and apply more of the medication to the skin. Continue this process until you have applied the product to three or four equally spaced spots along the back

    • 6

Avoid touching your dog’s back until the medication has dried and been absorbed. You will know this has occurred when the hair no longer looks wet.

    • 7

Separate the two dogs if you suspect they will lick each other’s backs. Otherwise the product will probably become ineffective, because the licking will remove it, though it should not harm a dog if ingested. If you think the dogs will roughhouse and rub the medication off, separate them until the medication is absorbed.

Tips & Warnings

  • The medication needs to touch the skin directly, or else it will not work properly.

  • Choose the correct size of K9 Advantix for your dog. K9 Advantix is available in packs appropriate for dogs 10 lbs. and under, 11 to 20 lbs., 21 to 55 lbs. and 56 lbs. and over.
