How to Add a Target Link to a Web Page

Target links allow visitors to jump around in large web pages without having to go to a new page.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basic text editing program

    Begin by creating the target.

  1. Step 1

    Open a text editing program, such as Notepad or EditPad. Locate the file and open it.

  2. Step 2

    Place the cursor where the target will be placed. Each target must have a name.

  3. Step 3

    Type the following, replacing "here" with a target name: This tells the browser that a NAME tag called 'Here' is located at this spot.

  4. Step 4

    Place your cursor where the link to the target will be placed.

  5. To create a link to a target in the same page:

  6. Step 1

    Type the following, replacing 'Here' with a target name: Here is the Link. This tag indicates a link but the # sign tells the browser the link is to a particular place within a page.

  7. To create a link to a target in another page:

  8. Step 1

    Type the following, replacing the address and link: . This tells the browser to go to a webpage and then go to a target within that web page.

  9. Finish the page:

  10. Step 1

    Save the file and open a web browser.

  11. Step 2

    Select Open from the web browser's File menu and locate the file. Click Open or double-click to view the file in the web browser.

  12. Step 3

    Check the link by clicking on it. If it does not work, verify the address and target name.

  13. Step 4

    Connect to the Internet and upload the page. Check the link again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Obtain permission before using any unlicensed or copyrighted clipart.
  • Do not use images from another web page without permission from the owner of the site.

on 8/3/2009 Uh, yeah, this doesn't really work because you can't see the html code. Instead, you have an ongoing link throughout your article. Maybe you should go Google how to show plain text on a page, just like you Googled this. Anyone who really knew html would know that they would need to bypass the webpage reading the html you are trying to show.
