How to Charge Cell Phones With Motion-Recharged Batteries

Originally developed for the U.S. military, a technology is being refined that allows electronics to be charged purely through motion. This can be the motion of a person walking or the motion of a bouncing truck. All that's strictly necessary is movement. Motion-rechargeable batteries are not yet on the market. But when they do arrive, cell phones are likely to be one of the early applications.

1. Make sure that the motion-rechargeable batteries are in your cell phone. If they're not in the phone, then no amount of motion will help.

2. Put your cell phone on your belt, in your pocket or in your purse. A backpack will also work.

3. Walk. Inside the motion-recharge batteries is a series of magnets that are geared to the smaller movements of the human body. This means that as you walk, run or otherwise move the batteries, a current is created that recharges them.

Tips & Warnings

• You could bring your cell phone with you as you run to give it a good charge. Also, the bouncing motion of a vehicle may be enough to help the phone charge up.

• These motion-rechargeable batteries, which are not yet available, would have to be pre-installed in a cell phone.
