How to Create a Legal Word Processing Resume

A legal word processor performs many of the same job duties as a legal secretary, including taking dictations, making revisions, typing legal reports, and proofreading documents. Some of the characteristics needed include excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills. Legal word processors are also frequently responsible for answering phones and greeting clients.

Instructions

    • 1

Include name and contact information at the top of the resume. This information is necessary for the law office to contact you to schedule an interview.

    • 2

Create a career objective for your resume. This should include an interest in finding a job as a legal word processor, as well as specific, relevant strengths you bring to the position, such as a background in office management and customer service.

    • 3

List legal positions held in the job experience section. For each position, list three to five bullet points explaining the job duties and responsibilities performed. Try to make them relevant to the legal word processor position by including relevant keywords, such as organizational, typing, communication, time management, legal terminology and the ability to work in fast-paced environments. All of these traits are highly valued in legal word processors.

    • 4

List your education in the next section. The position of legal word processor requires some education, and a bachelor's or master's degree can make you highly competitive in the job market. Include the university attended, the degree received, course of study, and the year you were graduated. List any additional relevant training, such as completing a typing course, in this section.

    • 5

Create a section for other experience if you have had jobs that were not in the legal word processing field but that helped you acquire some of the necessary skills. Limit the bullet points to two or three items for these positions.

    • 6

Add a section for any recognitions, awards, or honors. Include any significant accomplishments in this section. Any accomplishments in the legal field should definitely be included.

    • 7

List your references at the bottom of a legal word processor resume. Include three professional references, including names, titles, companies, phone numbers, and email addresses. References should be people who know you well and who have worked with you before, preferably while you were working as a legal work processor or in the legal field. Be sure to ask permission to list the people on your resume as references before doing so.
