How to Glue Sugar Cubes Together

How to Glue Sugar Cubes Together thumbnail
Sugar cubes can be used as miniature building blocks.

Sugar cubes provide excellent building blocks for children to create tiny structures or sugar castles. Sugar cubes are porous, however, and will melt or turn to liquid if a watery substance is applied to adhere them together. A suitable sugar cube "glue" frosting can be made from powdered sugar and water that will not break down the integrity of the sugar cube.

Instructions

    • 1

Place 1 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of water in a bowl. Mix the ingredients to a thick pudding consistency. Add more powdered sugar if it runs or more water if you have trouble stirring. Set the frosting mixture aside.

    • 2

Place the first row (or base row) of sugar cubes on cardboard. Apply frosting to the bottom of the first sugar cube of the second row and put in place. Repeat for all remaining sugar cubes, using the sugar cubes as blocks and the frosting as mortar.

    • 3

Let the sugar cube construction dry for 30 minutes before moving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Toothpicks through the center of the sugar cubes will provide stability for larger projects.
