Can I Wash a Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Cover?

Pamela Mitchell

A mattress cover not only provides protection, it also makes sleeping more comfortable. Sealy sells many types of padded mattress covers under its Posturepedic brand, and all can be washed and dried at home. Just remember to take a gentle approach when caring for your mattress.

Types

Sealy divides its padded mattress covers into comfort, protection and luxury categories. The Essential Mattress Pad, Pillow Topper Mattress Pad and Elegance Mattress Pad are designed to provide cushiony support and comfort. Sealy says its Bed Armor Mattress Pad, Waterproof Mattress Pad and Protection Mattress Pad also can repel spills. The Excellence Mattress Pad makes up the luxury category and, according to Sealy, provides comfort and spill resistance while also allowing body heat to escape. Sealy says all of its mattress covers are hypoallergenic.

Care Instructions

Check the care label on your Sealy Posturepedic mattress cover for specific washing and drying instructions. Sealy's general care instructions for padded mattress covers recommend machine washing on a cold water/gentle setting with mild detergent, running an extra rinse and spin cycle. The cold water/gentle cycle helps preserve your mattress cover’s elastic and any coatings. Machine dry the mattress cover on low. Sealy says you might need to dry the cover for four to six hours for full dryness, and it recommends fluffing by hand between cycles.

Frequency of Care

Sealy doesn't specify a recommended frequency for washing and drying its padded mattress covers. However, Heloise of "Good Housekeeping" suggests that you wash and dry your mattress cover every time you flip and/or rotate your mattress, which she recommends doing every few months. You can wash and dry the mattress cover more frequently as needed.

Warranty

The warranty period for a Sealy Posturepedic mattress cover depends on its type. Most of them have a three- or five-year warranty, although the Excellence Mattress Pad has a 10-year warranty. If you follow the care instructions provided by Sealy and the mattress cover does not hold up to regular use, check the warranty for your options for returning the cover.
