Increase the size of your hat. Chain one and make two single crochets in every stitch around, then join with a slip stitch. Switch to white yarn. To do this, cut your working red yarn and leave a four-inch tail. Pick up the white yarn and chain one with it, then single crochet in every stitch around for five rounds. Fasten off and weave in your loose ends using a large eye blunt needle. Fold up the white brim.

Attach the white yarn to the side of the hat, where you have folded it. Chain 40 and fasten off, then repeat on the other side. These will form the ties to hold the hat onto your dog's head.

To make a pom pom, take the white yarn and wrap it around three fingers of one hand approximately 50 times. Cut the yarn. Then take another length of yarn, approximately 10 inches long, and tie it around the center of these wraps to make them into a bundle. Knot this tie and cut open the loops of yarn, then trim to make a pom pom shape. Use your large eye blunt needle to sew the pom pom onto the tip of the Santa hat. Weave in all of your other loose ends as well, and the hat is ready to wear.
