How to Sew an Edge on a Polar Fleece Blanket

How to Sew an Edge on a Polar Fleece Blanket thumbnail
Everyone enjoys a warm polar fleece blanket.

Beginning and experienced sewers love sewing with polar fleece. It’s easy to work with and the edges do not ravel. It is also an appealing fabric because it can be found in a multitude of solid colors and prints. Though it’s not required to sew the edge of the polar fleece blanket, it makes the finished product appear more professionally completed.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut around your piece of polar fleece, making all edges even.

    • 2

Fold under 1 inch at the top and bottom of the blanket. Polar fleece is the same on both sides. There is no wrong or right side as there are with most other fabrics. Just make sure the folds all go in the same direction. Pin the fold with straight pins.

    • 3

Sew across, over the top of the pins, close to the inside, raw edge of the fold. Repeat the process on the other end.

    • 4

Fold the two sides under, as you did the top and bottom, 1 inch. Pin the folds with straight pins.

    • 5

Sew across, over the top of the pins, close to the inside, raw edge of the fold. Repeat the process on the other side.

    • 6

Clip all stray threads from your sewing edges.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use a sewing machine zigzag stitch all the way around the edge, or you can hand-sew a blanket stitch around the raw edges of the polar fleece blanket.
