How to Make Mosaic Pins
Mosaic pins are wearable art that you can easily make to coordinate with an outfit or to suit your personality. No previous jewelry-making experience is necessary to make a distinctive mosaic pin; you just need a few tools and supplies from the craft store. Customized mosaic pins can be any size or shape that you like and may be made from glass or ceramic mosaic tiles. You could also fill a photo frame pin bezel with tiny no-hole beads to create a multicolored mosaic-inspired design.

Instructions

1
Trace the desired design for the mosaic pin onto a section of felt with a fabric marker. Design templates such as stencils and other cutouts will work to help create the outline of the pin design.
-
2
Cut the outline of the design from the felt.
-
-
3
Glue the pin finding onto the center of the back of the felt shape with jeweler’s glue. Pin backs are available in the jewelry section of most craft stores and from online retailers. Allow the glue to dry.
-
4
Dry fit mosaic tiles onto the front of the felt. Mosaic glass or ceramic tiles are less than 2 inches square and come in a variety of shapes and colors. Fit the tiles so that there are no spaces between them.
-
5
Nip the tiles with tile nippers as needed to create a better fit on the felt. The type of nippers that you need will vary depending on the tile type. Glass mosaic tiles use wheel nippers, while ceramic mosaic tiles use basic tile nippers. To cut mosaic tiles with tile nippers, position the tile between the wheels or ends of the nippers and press the nipper handles together. File the rough edges with a diamond file, if necessary. The tiles should extend slightly beyond the outside perimeter of the felt backing.

6
Remove the tiles from the felt in a specific order. Place a small amount of jeweler’s glue onto a section of the felt.
-
7
Press the appropriate mosaic tiles into the glue. Continue to cover the felt with glue and mosaic tiles until the mosaic pin is complete. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving the pin.
