How to Change the Ink Cartridge in a MFC-3220C Printer
The Brother MFC-3220C printer uses four ink cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The black-ink cartridge prints approximately 500 pages; the other cartridges print up to 400 pages. There will come a time when you'll need to replace one or more of the Brother's ink cartridges. Doing so is not hard, but you need to use the system's control panel. Don't simply open the cover and replace the cartridges without using the control panel.
Instructions
-
-
1
Press the "Ink" button on the Brother's control panel. Then, press the "Down" arrow until "Replace Ink" is displayed on the screen.
-
2
Press the "Menu" button and wait for the screen to show "Pls Open Cover."
-
-
3
Grasp the lower edge of the cover and lift it up to access the ink cartridges.
-
4
Push the button labeled "Push" on the ink cartridge you want to replace. This springs the cartridge forward.
-
5
Lift the ink cartridge out of the carrier. Set it to the side, preferrably in a protective wrapper or bag to prevent ink from spilling.
-
6
Open the new ink cartridge. Hold the cartridge with the arrows on the tape facing away from you. Peel the tap forward, in the direction of the arrows.
-
7
Insert the new ink cartridge into the carrier. Each position in the carrier is used for a specific color. Make sure you place the cartridge in the same position as the old one. Flip down the cover labeled "Push" to secure the cartridge.
-
8
Replace the other ink cartridges if necessary. All the cartridges are changed in the same manner. If more than one is low, you'll need to change additional cartridges.
-
9
Close the control panel. Watch the display screen. It will ask "Did you replace the cartridge?" for each color. Press "1" if you replaced the cartridge for the specific color; press "2" if you did not. This allows the ink counter to display the proper levels.

When I tried to get the printer to go to "Open cover.." mode, it would ignore me. Menu options would change but it would not go. Solution was just to unplug the printer for a few seconds to break the "loop" it seemed to be in, then follow the instructions above, which are perfect.
