How to Install Drivers for an HP Deskjet 5150 Printer

Available in North America, Latin America and Europe, the HP Deskjet 5150 printer prints 19 pages per minute in black and 14 pages per minute in color. The HP 5150 features optional six-ink printing via the regular tri-color ink cartridge (HP 57) and the photo ink cartridge (HP 58). It also requires a black ink cartridge (HP 56). The printer interfaces with your computer via a USB cable, and like many USB products, you should not connect the printer to the computer prior to installing the drivers.

Things You'll Need

• HP Deskjet 5150 installation disk or downloaded drivers
• Internet access
• Administrator access

Instructions

Windows XP and Vista

1. Shut down the computer and the HP Deskjet 5150. Remove the printer's USB cable from the computer, then reboot the computer.

2. Insert the HP Deskjet 5150 printer's installation disk or double-click on the installation file you previously downloaded. (Please see Resources if you need to download the drivers.)

3. Click "Next." Select "Connected directly to this computer."

4. Click "USB cable." Click "Install."

5. Insert the USB cable into the computer when prompted by the installation program, then turn on the printer.

6. Click "Finish."

Windows 7

1. Boot up your computer.

2. Connect one end of the USB cable to your printer and the other end to your computer.

3. Allow Windows time to detect and to install the built-in drivers for your HP Deskjet 5150.

Tips & Warnings

• By installing built-in drivers, you will not have access to the integrated HP Solution Center and other HP-specific software. You may still manually access the HP website for assistance.
