How to Download Objects to the Sims 2

The Sims series introduces players to a world they can control and keep, with simulated people they can watch over and guide through their lives. These people, the Sims of the title, have wants and needs, and you can buy things to help meet those. The Sims 2 adds the Exchange feature, allowing players to download and install a wealth of new objects and toys for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Sims 2 website (see Resources) and login or register for an account.

    • 2

Install or insert the game disc. When prompted, use the Product registration tool to link this game to your Sims 2 account. The EReg tool or the Product registration option in the application folder will guide you through the registration process.

    • 3

Visit the Exchange (also under Resources) and look for any objects you want to download. The website is organized into four categories: Sims, Pets, Lots and Objects. Under each category, you'll find all of the files you can download. Root around the website until you find a file or some files that you like.

    • 4

Click an object or character that you want to download to bring up its details page. Make sure that you have the games and expansions listed under "Required games" for each of the objects you want to download. When ready, click the "Download this Object" link.

    • 5

Choose where the file will be downloaded, and place it in a folder you can locate later. The "Downloads" folder in "My Documents" is a good place, but this is up to you.

    • 6

Wait for the download to complete. Then head to the folder and double-click the file you downloaded to automatically install the files to your game. When complete, you will find the Objects in the "Buy" menu, the Lots will be installed to the "Select lot" option, and you'll find your Sims and pets in the "Body shop."

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not have all of the required expansion packs for one of the objects, that object will not work on your computer.
