How to Join the Royal Marines
The Royal Marines (RM) are based out of the United Kingdom and make up the marine corps and amphibious infantry of the nation. Those who serve in the RM are the U.K.'s premier specialists in amphibious warfare and are part of the highly trained Rapid Deployment Force. Other specialties of RM include mountain and arctic warfare and the use of different types of fleet vessels. The RM program accepts only the most skilled and dedicated individuals after they pass different tests and interviews.

1
Contact a RM career adviser by calling the office at 08456-00-14-44 or by filling out a contact request form, which is on the RM official website. During the telephone conversation, a career adviser will explain the application process for joining the RM in full detail and will answer any questions. The career adviser will then schedule an appointment for the person to meet with a Royal Marine at the Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO).
-
2
Visit with a Royal Marine at the AFCO. This is a chance for an individual to learn more about what serving on the RM is like. The marine will explain the next steps of the application process and detail what is required of an applicant at this time. The AFCO will sign the interested applicant up for the aptitude test, interview, medical examination and fitness test.

3
Pass the aptitude test. The aptitude test measures an applicant's ability to reason and his level of mechanical comprehension. This test also measures language and mathematical skills.
-
4
Pass the interview and medical examination. During the interview, a panel asks an applicant personal questions along with questions about her reason for wanting to join the RM. The purpose of the medical examination is to make sure the applicant is not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and ensure the individual is healthy.
-
5
Pass the physical fitness test. The pre-joining fitness test (PJFT) measures an applicant's endurance and strength. To pass the PJFT, an individual must complete two 2.4-km runs.
-
6
Complete the Potential Royal Marines Course (PRMC). The PRMC is a three-day evaluation to see how determined applicants are to join the RM. During the PRMC, individuals must satisfactorily pass the "assault course," a three-mile run, and tests in a gym and a classroom setting. More interviews will take place as well so the recruiting team can learn more information about the applicant. The PRMC concludes with an invitation to join the RM as a Commando to those who qualify.
